Huh.

Why, Flashburn, why?

I cannot count the times that the classic combination of "buzz bass, kick, snare, buzz bass, kick, random reversed cymbal" has been heard by my ears.

To be honest, it's gotten VERY OLD.

Your arpeggios are seriously McGodly material. The panning is a nice touch, the mastering... masterful.

But the bass is simply vanilla- bland, overused, and overall, unfufilling.

Can't you do SOMETHING with it?

At the very least, try to do something that not everyone else is doing. You can do the arps, (however, these are sad arps. This is a GRAPHIC DESCRIPTION OF WHAT'S HAPPENING TO THEM: They are masterful, bouncing around on the song... and around... and around... and around again... then comes that beepy high one. I like that one. And then they stop changing, and decide to filter the same three or four notes until the end. And of course, the bass just comes and pelvically thrusts them into... well, everything else. You have the skill and talent to do more! Why are you wasting it on something like this? Those arps are crying out for something new! I seriously think that's the ONLY good thing about this song.

I hate to say it, Flashburn. This song is pure vanilla with a coating of awesome arps and amazing mastering. Sure, it sounds nice, but it's soulless. It's what EVERYBODY FREAKING ELSE IS DOING. DON'T DO THAT.

What sets it apart from the millions of other songs like it? Nothing. You don't have a distinctive sound to this, nothing to remember it by. Sure, it sounds good, but will you ever remember it? No. There are songs, there are good songs, and there are memorable songs.

It feels to me like you want to be proud of this, but... why? Nothing sets it apart.

And that's what you need, something to set you apart.

I hate to say it, but PLEASE don't waste your hours and skill on the arpeggios on such a shaky foundation like this. You can do better.

It's not a question of technical talent, because you've got that down cold. It's just that this lacks a creative soul.

I can't, in good faith, give this a McBurger or any higher than a three- because you can do better, and you and I both know that.

8-Bit... checked out. :D

Author's response:
Sorry, you don't vote because you like the style or not, you vote because of FUCKING AWESOME QUOTIENT OF THE SONG! >:(

Fixed.

They're right, it is a bit repetitive, but definitely well put together, well-mastered, and overall one of the better things I've heard in awhile!

And I WILL check out your 8-bit, thank you very much.

Seriously, a bit of a melody changeup would help you, or continue the melody, but change out instruments.

The bit before you started saying "Power" where it faded out made me ANGRY. I FUCKING HATE FADEOUTS LIKE THAT. FUCKING HATE. I SHIT ON YOU.

Then it gets awesome again, where it gets that, ya know, bouncy feel, that's a definite improvement, but again, the melody's getting a bit stale by this point.

And then you did it AGAIN. MURDER.

Anyways, McAwesomeBurger Award for you for musical awesomeness, and a fifen because I KNOW this deserves a higher score. :D

I needs to get me a microphone.

PS. Check out the Tangerine Dreams Demo! :D

I wanted to add a second 8-bit melody with the same mellow but higher octave, but it sounded shitty!

I also need a better one! :P

Thx 4 ya review dude!!! =D

Damn you.

Damn you and your awesome music skills to hell.

Sounds very arctic-y. You know what I mean, and you know it.

That weirded out choir (and I'm going to assume that's the Delay Lama) fits VERY well here. It makes the song sound even better.

The pitchbendy and glitchy part is bar none, one of the most amazing things I've heard.

I think I'd have to kill you to win now. :p

Anyways, McAwesomeBurger for your trouble and a fifen!

EchozAurora responds:

;D
Hopefully the judges feel the same way.
And fortunately, you don't know where I live, nor what I look like, so killing me would be rather difficult.
I'm sure we'll find out the results soon, hopefully this makes the top 3!

Giant Wall O' Sound

That's EXACTLY what I feel like I hit. Are you trying to kill me or something? :D

Okay, this is how I feel- Guitar- Awesome. Definitely adds a nice touch to it. Wish I could play that well.

Gated Saw- Well, hey, definitely added to the song, gave it a feeling of "fullness." Can't quite describe it, but you know what I mean.

Piano- For the love of GOD, that sample makes me want to KILL someone. It burns. Oh, God, it burns.

Can I kill you?

Finally, pretty awesome. Like Chron said, mastering would help this out a lot.

Anyways, make sure you check out mine, and the rest of the competition's entries! :D

Nearly forgot!

Even if you don't win, you have the pleasure of having won a McGreatBurger and a fifen.

Enjoy. :D

Stealth-Emergence responds:

Aw dude, a great wall of sound, well you'd be better off hitting that, than the great wall of China ;)

Mastering this was one hell of a challenge, I've gone back into the file since to try it again but I just can not seem to do it :(

Glad you liked it and reviewed it too, I have heard all the competition entries and there are some really awesome entries

and a McGreatBurger too :) cool!!!

Peace Out!

Nice.

The loop isn't quite perfect, but it's damn close... I kept wanting the main synth to go just those few notes higher, and it kept me straining to enjoy the song as it was.

Anyways, it's still fairly nice, but I don't know what the loop would be used for.

Fourfen't :D

Jiao-Zhang responds:

lol. thanks.

-Yogosun

Cheap. Honda. Speakers.

Srsly. That's exactly how the bass sounds- as if it were coming out of stock Honda Civic speakers. With the volume really really high. You ever hear those cars coming? Like you can "hear" them? Yeah. It sounds like that.

That aside, for the love of god, please, please please get that beautiful arp that plays through the whole song out of my left ear and into both. My right ear is jealous.

What else? Oh yeah... it's beautiful. I likes a lot.
Especially when you get the drums in, that's definitely a good moment. Kinda something like you could get easily stoned to.

Anyways, the future is McAwesome and fivent. :D

Have I ever mentioned...

that I love your music?

FINISH THIS DAMN SONG! Or you will wake up one day with a knife in your chest, and you'll be like, "Shit, there's a knife. In my chest."

So finish it, dammit!

-Solus

Rave4Yourself responds:

lol, fiiiiiiine, :P

Got a few more in store, :P

Number 3.

I gotta say, I like this one. A few sour notes, a bit of dissonance here and there, but that can be easily corrected. This, here, is one of your best works. Sounds like a bleepy 80's vg, and it's the best o' the retro age.

I really don't have any major complaints with this song, except that you should watch out for the few dissonant notes you have. You've definitely got something here.

Fifen and McGreatBurger.

-Solus

You know I'm always honest with ya...

So, let's get the bad news outta the way first, neh?

Okay. First thing. That intro synth, carried through the entire song, made me want to stab someone. It was just one of those sounds that is almost-but not quite, and it's short just the tiniest bit that it sounds worse. Also, it just doesn't seem to fit in with the main melody too well, the high pitched short synth you had going there. After that, it fit in better, but it kind of grated.

Next! Buildup and suspense were almost nonexistent. Felt VERY rushed.

Alright, now on to the good stuff! When it all came together at the end, it sounded pretty amazing. However, a slightly bassier, louder kick would probably have helped this song.

Fast paced and full of energy, you got that right on the mark. However, is it focused, well-refined energy or just random sugar-rush energy?

Anyways, that's all I gotta say for this review,

and I'ma fifen. :D Because that's what bros are for.

beatmasterJAG responds:

Thanks brah!

Yeah, I don't expect a Moon Man or and burgers for this song.

But I will definately consider your bad news stuff-it will help me! stupid 300bpm songs......grrrr

Glorious? Not really.

Ambient and angelic? Of course.

Someone has learned the value of women that can sing in trance/techno/ambient/whatever.

Though I gotta say, the fuzz on the vocals was really, really irritating me. I mean "kill something" irritating me. Also, the song was probably a bit high on the dB when you rendered/recorded it- the bass and kicks are distorting a bit, and you can fix that by turning the master volume down a bit, or just for those instruments.

Kinda has the effect of someone going down the street in a cheap plastic Honda blasting the bass from stock speakers. NOT a good thing to have. You know that sound I'm talking about.

Off that topic though. All in all, it's a nice, calming, simple song. I like Heather's vocals already, she can sing for me anytime - seriously, I've really got to find meself another voice actor.

Anyways, drop me a review on Technotronic Soul v0.4- I've changed a few things, and tell me how it sounds! :D

Fifen, DL, and McGreatBurger award for your trouble.

-Solus

Stealth-Emergence responds:

Hi Solus, yeah the fuzz, not a great deal I could have done about that, the original recording had fuzz on it, I just did the best I could at removing the worst of it, there may be tricks to further removing fuzz that I may not be aware of! if there are I'd love to know them!

Yeah the bass and kicks do have that effect, I should have turned them down just a tad! well I'll be more careful in future! I promise!

I don't want people emulating cheap plastic hondas with stock speakers, least of all me! :( will sort it!

If you like Heathers vocals, be sure to stop by her page! just stick a hyphen between her first and surname and leave her a review >:( lol

Anywhoo thanks for your review Solus, I will bear your points in mind for future submissions

Peace Out!
